September often offers beautiful days, perfect for a weekend getaway. Take the opportunity to explore the sites around Bordeaux. From the Arcachon Basin to the Périgord Noir, passing through the vineyards, there is no shortage of places to visit!

Less than an hour from Bordeaux

Spending a weekend in Bordeaux is a chance to discover its vineyards. The Wine Route invites you to experience the finesse of Bordeaux wines and the richness of its architectural heritage. In this regard, don’t miss the visit to Saint-Émilion, a medieval town listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Via the N89 towards Périgueux, you will reach it in 45 minutes.

North of Bordeaux, via the A10, then the N37, you will arrive in Blaye in an hour. Also listed as a World Heritage Site, this town located on the Gironde estuary is renowned for its magnificent citadel built by Vauban and its approximately 6,000 hectares of vineyards. You can leave your car there and enjoy a river cruise on the Gironde estuary.

Other visits around Bordeaux await you. At 43 km, on the Gironde estuary, on the D5 after Castelnau-le-Médoc, Fort Médoc is an impressive military complex, listed as a Historic Monument, also attributed to Vauban.

More than an hour from Bordeaux

Don’t spend a weekend in Bordeaux without stopping at the Arcachon Basin: you can get there in 1h10 via the A630 and A660, then the N250. Jean Cocteau, Jean-Paul Sartre, and many others loved spending their holidays in this peaceful haven. Don’t miss the Dune of Pilat, the tallest dune in Europe (over 100 m high).

A weekend in Bordeaux is also an opportunity to spend a day in the Périgord Noir. The historic town of Sarlat is located 191 km from Bordeaux: it can be reached via the A89, then the N221. Sarlat is famous for its medieval monuments and its market where local products such as foie gras and black truffle are sold. 25 km away are the famous Lascaux Caves, listed as a Historic Monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site for their prehistoric cave paintings. Wonderful visits around Bordeaux for a September weekend!
