Tired of being at home? Surely you feel like renting a car and going on a trip. For example, how about exploring some of the highlights of Spanish geography? Discover the best natural places to visit in Spain, and enjoy its culture, wonderful climate, and unique gastronomy.

There are many places to see, but what we propose this time is a journey into nature. Unique landscapes that will transport you to a world of peace and tranquility, where there is no place for stress or rush. Are you ready to start the journey? Let’s go!

Navarra and the Irati Forest

Although Spain is recognized worldwide for its coastal areas, outside of them we can also find spectacular places.

If you want to experience the unique feeling of getting lost in a fairy forest, the Irati Forest must be on your travel route. An immense area of almost 20,000 hectares located in the Eastern Pyrenees, in the Foral Community of Navarra.

Put on your boots and get ready to enjoy an environment where beeches and firs are the main protagonists. Wherever you look, nature will surround you, whether in its plant or animal form. And the best part is that this space remains practically untouched, so it’s like being in a real jungle.

In autumn, the mix of colors is truly spectacular, with a ground practically dyed red by the effect of fallen leaves. The landscape changes in every season, being the perfect excuse to return again and again to this wonderful place.

Also in Navarra, you have the Bardenas Reales, a natural setting that will make you believe you have arrived on Mars, with large plateaus and unique rock formations. All tinged with an impressive color, between reddish and brown. If upon arrival you feel the landscape looks familiar, don’t be surprised, hundreds of commercials, movies, and series have been filmed there.

Lugo and the Beach of the Cathedrals

If Australia can boast of its famous Twelve Apostles beach, in Lugo (Galicia) hides a natural wonder that you should visit at least once in your life: the Beach of the Cathedrals.

In this particular beach, the best part is not the water and sand, but the spectacular cliffs that border it. The erosion of the sea and wind has created arches, vaults, and caves that attract thousands of visitors every year.

Entering one of those small caves will transport you to a different world. Enjoy the shine of the walls and be amazed by the small mussels and barnacles that grow in the grottoes.

Do you want to enjoy this environment even more? Here’s our little tip: visit the beach at low tide, then you can walk on the sand and enjoy the incredible structures created by erosion. Stay in the area for a few hours and come back when the tide has risen, you’ll be in front of a completely different landscape.

But Lugo is much more than its most famous beach, it also has other spots that will allow you to connect with nature, such as the Cospeito lagoon and the Mustallar peak, with 1935 meters of altitude and not too difficult access.

Álava and the Nervión Waterfall

Spanish geography offers landscapes for all tastes, even huge waterfalls that will leave you speechless. Between Burgos and the Basque Country, already in the province of Álava, hides one of the great secrets of the nature of this area: the Nervión Waterfall.

As soon as you are there, you will know what makes it so spectacular. It is the highest waterfall in Spain, located at 270 meters high, and you can observe it with total tranquility from a viewpoint that also allows you to have a dream view of how the river carves its way through the Délica canyon.

If you like nature, Álava has a lot to offer, as it has five natural parks within its territory. The Izki Natural Park is perfect for hiking and mountaineering enthusiasts, and you can enjoy incredible views of the Bujanda cliff and the medieval village of Korres. Another option is the Valderejo Natural Park, known for its oak groves and where you can observe the flight of the griffon vulture.

If you want to connect with nature and visit places you couldn’t even imagine existed, Spain is your best destination. It will be as easy as renting a car with Europcar, getting behind the wheel, following your route, and enjoying a well-deserved vacation to the fullest! We assure you it will be an unforgettable trip.
