The city of Toulouse is also called the pink city due to the color of its terracotta bricks, the main material used in its architecture.

In the heart of the southwest, discover all the charm of this city, which balances the richness of its terroir with its attraction to innovation. Toulouse manages to find a compromise between modernity and respect for its roots.

You can also rent a car in Toulouse to visit the city of Carcassonne. This trip will give you the impression of a true journey back in time.

1- Quai de Tounis

A stay in Toulouse will teach you to take the time to admire beautiful things. Stroll along the Quai de Tounis and enjoy the calm and charm of these banks of the Garonne. Look up and admire the rich architecture of a past that is still very present.

2- Le Capitole

Located, as its name suggests, at Place du Capitole, this neoclassical historical monument has been the seat of municipal power since the 12th century. It is truly the emblem of the city. Today, it houses the town hall and the Capitole theater.

3- Pont Saint Pierre

The walk along the Quai de Tounis will lead you to the Pont Saint Pierre. It connects Place Saint-Pierre to the Hospice de la Grave. This beam bridge was completely rebuilt between 1984 and 1987. It offers a magnificent view of the Garonne.

4- The Musée des Augustins

The Musée des Augustins is the fine arts museum of Toulouse. Take advantage of your stay in Haute-Garonne to enrich your artistic culture while enjoying the unique setting of this building, constructed in 1793, which was for a long time the Augustins convent.

5- Le Bazacle

Le Bazacle is a geological, historical, and tourist site. Located in the heart of Toulouse on the banks of the Garonne, at the height of the original ford, this foundational passage of the city was used long before the Roman era. Today, you can visit the EDF Bazacle space for free and discover all the species of migratory birds. Take the opportunity to discover the 400m2 terrace offering a breathtaking view of the river.

6- Jardin Royal

Created in 1754, this French-style public garden faces the Jardin des Plantes. A true haven of peace, you will find many varieties of plants as well as very beautiful bronze statues.

7 – Muséum d’histoire naturelle

If you enjoy weekends focused on culture, you will be delighted to discover the Muséum d’histoire naturelle de Toulouse. It offers you the opportunity to approach the science of life in a playful way. It is a place that will impress both young and old.

8- Place Wilson

This square, listed as a historical monument since August 20, 1974, is located at the entrance to the city center of Toulouse. This square is very lively in the evening as it gathers a large part of the city’s cafes and cinemas. During the day, you can enjoy this place for a walk and admire the Toulouse heritage.

9- Basilique Saint Sernin

Like Place Wilson, the Basilique Saint-Sernin is classified as a historical monument. It is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France since 1998. It is therefore an essential element of the city of Toulouse.

10- A Detour to Carcassonne

Finally, if you are going to spend a few days in the city of Toulouse, I strongly recommend traveling the approximately 90 km that separate it from Carcassonne. Indeed, whether you are passionate about history, oenology, gastronomy, or all three at once, Carcassonne will meet all your expectations. You can also stroll through the streets of this medieval city.

As you will have noticed, the city of Toulouse reveals its share of surprises. Even if you are satisfied with going there just for a weekend, do not hesitate to stay for several days to not miss anything of this city with a thousand facets.
