Prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes, the city of Nice enjoys an ideal location due to its position by the sea. Its lifestyle and tourist attractions are often highlighted; whether around Nice, by the sea, or in the hinterland, the region is full of splendid landscapes to discover for everyone’s enjoyment.

Around Nice: the nearby surroundings and their treasures

The most beautiful way to discover the small villages around Nice is probably to take the mythical coastal road along the Mediterranean. This departmental road connecting the towns of Saint-Raphaël and Menton serves Cannes, Antibes, Monaco, and many other villages, each more picturesque than the last. Nice is also very easily accessible via the A8 motorway, known as “La Provençale”.

We will say little about Cannes and Monaco, as these two cities are already well known to everyone. Let’s focus instead on the more modest but no less interesting towns. On the coastal road, Théoule-sur-Mer, bordered by the Estérel massif, charms with its typical character and almost wild charm in some places. You can stroll through its streets or go hiking, exploring the Estérel.

About a dozen kilometers from Nice, another village deserves a stop: Èze. Rather than lingering in Èze-Bord-de-Mer, it is preferable to venture up to the perched village on the heights, which proudly bears the imprint of its medieval past.

The hinterland: the villages around Nice

To better discover the Nice hinterland, there are many ways to explore it by leisurely driving. The hinterland features fields of lavender and olive trees, as well as charming villages around Nice.

In Vallauris, a village of potters, you can walk in the footsteps of Pablo Picasso and Jean Marais. A visit to Biot will be an opportunity to discover the world of glassblowers, whose workshops are revealed around picturesque, cobbled streets.

And then, if one has too much of a city soul to be satisfied with the villages around Nice, remember that Marseille is only about two hours away by car.

Don’t wait any longer to rent your car in Nice!
