What to see around Lyon?
There are plenty of opportunities for a drive around Lyon, discovering beautiful landscapes and traditional villages.
About ten kilometers from the center, via the Saint-Fortunat road, the Mont d’Or massif offers numerous walking possibilities. Children will love cycling on its trails and hiding in the cabornes of Saint Didier and Poleymieux, while avid hikers can choose between two hiking routes.
Those who prefer aquatic pleasures, however, take the D433 towards Neuville-sur-Saône, 15 kilometers from Lyon, where they can enjoy its leisure center by the river and take the opportunity to visit the village’s historic homes.
A little further, 25 kilometers north of Lyon via the A46, the Saône Valley, a land of art and history, is the center of the region’s river tourism with its two marinas for pleasure boats. You can also visit its lock house, dating back to 1870, and relax on its terrace while enjoying a delicious herbal tea.

The hinterland is full of lovely walks around Lyon. History and ancient monument enthusiasts can take the A7 and travel about thirty kilometers to Vienne, a Gallo-Roman city, home to the Temple of Augustus and Livia and the Cybele archaeological garden. Are you more attracted to religious architecture? The Abbey of Cluny, a center of monastic life in the Middle Ages, is 89 kilometers from Lyon via the A6.
Do you have children? They will certainly enjoy a trip to the Château de Bouthéon, located in the Forez plain, on the banks of the Loire, and especially surrounded by an animal and botanical park spanning several hundred hectares. If you are a wine lover, it would be a shame to be so close to the Beaujolais hills without visiting the Château de la Chaize, discovering its vineyards as well as its French gardens, the work of Le Nôtre. You can reach it in 48 kilometers via the A6.
Finally, 54 kilometers from Lyon via the A7, the Pilat massif and regional park is an ideal place for hiking and cycling, but also for visiting characterful villages… and tasting the delicious local cuisine.
