Umeå is the largest city in Norrland - Sweden's northernmost part. It is only 400 km from the Arctic! Also, watch out for heavy snowfall and strong winds in winter. If you drive along the coast, the roads are likely free from snow, but if you choose to explore roads that are not by the coast in winter, you can expect them to be plowed but not salted.

You must not miss Piteå, Sweden's little gem in the east! Just 215 km north of Umeå, on the way to Swedish Lapland, this archipelago offers a variety of activities, from cross-country skiing in Piteå Elit in winter to sunbathing on Pite havsbad's sandy beaches along the Baltic Sea coast in summer. Plenty of outdoor excursions await you there, all year round! If you happen to be there the last week of June, don't miss "Piteå dansar och ler," the famous dancing street festival!
